5 Ways To Clean Your House Using Normal Household Products

Posted on: 1 February 2017

If you want to cut down on the chemicals that you use to keep your house clean, the new year is a great time to use normal household products to keep your house clean. With some olive oil, cornmeal, vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda, you can take care of most of your household cleaning needs without busting out cleaners that are full of chemicals.

#1 Carpet Cleaner

If your carpet does not smell that fresh, you can freshen up your carpet with corn meal. Take the corn meal and lightly sprinkle it onto your carpet. You are going to want to put down a nice, fine dusting of corn meal. Then, use your vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the corn meal. This will leave your carpet smelling and feeling nice and fresh.

#2 Furniture Polish

If you have wood furniture in your home, you don't need to use a harsh smelling cleaner. Instead, mix together two-parts of olive oil with about one-part lemon juice. Then, use a rag or soft cloth to apply this mixture to your furniture. The olive oil will help make your wood shine and the lemon juice will give your wood furniture a nice fresh scent.

#3 Window Cleaner

Next, when it is time to clean your windows or bathroom mirrors, you can easily create your own cleaner. Take a spray bottle and fill it up halfway with vinegar and halfway with water. If the smell of vinegar is to strong, add a little lemon or a few drops of essential oil to the mixture. This will clean your glass just as easily as traditional glass cleaner, without the risk of you breathing in harmful fumes while you clean.

#4 Surface Clean

To clean the various surfaces in your home, from your kitchen counter to your bathroom to your doorknobs, you can use white vinegar. For areas that you really want to sanitize, just wipe down the surface with a towel or clean sponge that has been soaked in white vinegar and let the surface air dry.

For a lighter clean, dilute white vinegar with water and add some essential oils to the mix. Use this to quickly clean surfaces in between deep cleans.

#5 Removing Stains

If you have stains that you need to remove in your kitchen or bathroom, just sprinkle a little baking soda onto the stain and then scrub the area with a slightly damp sponge. If the stain persists, mix in a little lemon juice with baking soda to really just away the stain.

The next time you need to clean, pull out the five everyday household products discussed above and use them to clean up your house. If you use a housecleaning service, talk with the service for more info and see if they are willing to clean your house with these natural alternatives.
