If you want to redo your bathroom but doing a complete reno is out of your budget, there are things that you can do to get the updated look without having to pay so much money. One of the things that you can do is to refinish all the tiles in your bathroom. Refinishing or reglazing your tiles can let you change the character of your bathroom, without having to tear your whole bathroom apart. So, what do you need to do to refinish your tiles?

Remove the Grout

You want to make sure that you remove the grout in between the tiles. Don't worry, you will be replacing it, and for the short amount of time that you are going to have no grout, you shouldn't have any problems. You are going to need to remove it because the grout won't take the paint or glaze that you are going to put on it. All you need to use to get rid of the tile is a chisel or screwdriver and hammer. Just be careful while you are doing it so you don't hit the tiles. 

Clean Your Tub

Once you have gotten rid of the grout, it's going to be time to clean out your tub, and you want it to be as clean as possible, which means you are going to use all kinds of products, and it may take a while. You are going to want to use some kind of bleach product to get rid of any mildew, then an abrasive to get rid of anything else, and finally, some very fine sandpaper. Make sure that you are rinsing thoroughly in between each step. Any grit or residue left over in the tub might make it so your tiles don't take the paint or glaze you want. 

Start Painting

After you have done all the cleaning and let everything dry, then you are going to want to tape off the area and start painting. Make sure that the paint that you are using is designed for tiles and can be used in the bathroom. You don't want to use regular paint because it won't work and could cause damage. There are a variety of colors, so you should be able to find the color that you want. 

Refinishing your bathroom tiles can change the look of your bathroom without a lot of money.
